SUMMARY:XVI Congressus Internationalis Epigraphiae Graecae et Latinae
DESCRIPTION:L’Institut Ausonius (CNRS – Université Bordeaux Montaigne)\, sous le haut patronage de l’Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres (AIBL\, Paris)\, de l’Association Internationale d’épigraphie grecque et latine  (AIEGL) et de la Société Française d’études épigraphiques sur Rome et le monde romain\, a le plaisir de vous inviter au XVIe Congrès international d’épigraphie grecque et latine qui aura lieu à Bordeaux du 29 août au 2 septembre 2022. \nL’objectif de cette édition est de réfléchir sur la situation de l’épigraphie et le rôle de l’épigraphiste au XXIe siècle. Le congrès sera donc organisé autour de bilans thématiques\, chronologiques ou géographiques\, qui permettront de faire le point sur l’avancement de nos connaissances\, sur les questions méthodologiques\, techniques ou éthiques que rencontre l’épigraphie contemporaine. Une attention particulière sera portée au renouvellement de l’épigraphie grâce au développement des humanités numériques. \nLa section Falsifications épigraphiques et collections épigraphiques : Le « cycle de vie » des inscriptions sera animée par Lorenzo Calvelli (Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia) & Ginette Vagenheim (Université de Rouen – ERIAC) \n\n\n\nAu cours du XIXe siècle\, les fondateurs de la science épigraphique décidèrent de réunir dans une seule section des corpora\, intitulée falsae vel alienae\, les inscriptions fausses et les inscriptions déplacées\, en les marquant d’une astérisque. À leurs yeux\, ces deux types de monuments inscrits ne devaient pas être utilisés comme des sources historiques car ils ne permettaient pas de reconstruire l’histoire ancienne ou la topographie antique; or\, les raisons d’un tel choix échappent encore aujourd’hui aux non-spécialistes et la présence de ces deux groupes d’inscriptions dans une même catégorie provoque souvent l’incompréhension. \nCette section thématique propose de revenir sur l’approche traditionnelle réservée aux « inscriptions fausses et déplacées » en dépassant le jugement négatif qu’elles ont trop souvent suscité\, notamment par l’exploration de nouvelles approches méthodologiques. Elle s’adresse à tou.te.s les collègues qui travaillent sur ces deux thématiques selon des approches diverses et à travers des contextes historiques et géographiques multiples. \nParmi les pistes possibles mais non exclusives\, on pourra se demander si les falsae peuvent être considérées comme des produits de l’histoire de la culture et quelles relations et dynamiques elles établissent entre l’antiquité et l’époque où elles furent inventées ; dans cette perspective\, d’autres questions pourront alors être posées\, touchant à la taxonomie de ces documents ou à la nature de la falsification\, qu’elle soit sur pierre ou sur papier\, intentionnelle ou destinée à reproduire ou imiter les modèles classiques. \nPour ce qui concerne les alienae\, c’est l’exploration des manuscrits épigraphiques\, des papiers d’archives\, l’histoire des collections épigraphiques et des réseaux commerciaux et antiquaires qui nous livrera des informations inédites et essentielles sur le « cycle de vie » de ces inscriptions\, qu’il faudra parcourir à rebours\, depuis leur lieu actuel de conservation jusqu’au contexte de leur conception originelle ; il s’agira en outre de récupérer des documents trop souvent négligés et pourtant essentiels pour l’étude de l’histoire ancienne.

SUMMARY:The Circulation of Anti-Catholicisms in the Anglo-Atlantic world\, 17th-21st Centuries
DESCRIPTION:In line with the historiography of cultural transfers\, this conference focuses on the dynamics of anti-Catholicism (in its practices\, discourses and representations) travelling back and forth the two sides of the Atlantic. How were discourses and practices carried out by preachers\, travellers\, writers and temporary migrants disseminated on both sides of the Atlantic? How did anti-Catholicism evolve in a colonial context in which the Established Churches of Britain were not all-powerful? Furthermore\, how did anti-Catholicism adapt to ‘religious toleration’ in the colonies?
